Automatic Non-Chemical Iron Filtration Systems
FAQs | Download Printable PDF Version

Water containing high levels of iron and manganese is common in ground water all over the Earth. If these elements remain in your water system, they can damage fixtures and appliances and cause staining of clothes and surfaces. A water softener alone is not capable of removing these stainers unless they are present in very low levels. There are several different types of iron filters we recommend; and what may work well at one site, may not work well at another. These non-chemical iron filters operate reliably and afford very low maintenance under the right conditions. We have our own in-house laboratory and have tested thousands of water samples, before and after the installation of our clients' systems over the years. The result is that we can offer you free, expert consulting and can guarantee that the system you need is the system you get: a custom fit for every application! E-mail or call us for more information.

Check Out These Advanced Features:
Large Capacity: Won't restrict pressure or flow, unlike cheap home club or hardware store systems.
Fully Automatic: System automatically backwashes, no filters to change.
No Chemcals to Add: Unless pH is less than 7.0; no minerals or chemicals to add; low maintenance.
How Do I Know What Size I Need?
If the filter system is to be installed prior to entry to the home or other structure, pick a system with a pipe size that is not less than the pipe size of your water service (at the shut-off to your house), OR compute the peak gallons per minute required, and use an iron filter that provides at least this peak flow. For instance, one shower typically requires 2 to 5 gallons per minute, one washing machine 2 to 4 gallons per minute etc. Add these up to arrive at the peak flow rate.
Iron-Only Filter Systems: Removes iron: 0.2 ppm to 15 ppm. Not recommended for water containing manganese, chlorine, tannins, hydrogen sulfide, or oil.

Iron/Manganese Filter Systems: Removes Iron Levels .2 ppm to 15 ppm. Removes Manganese Levels .04 to .5 ppm; Note: pH must be between 8.0 and 8.5. Higher manganese levels? Use an AWS Automatic Greensand Iron Filtration System. Not recommended for water containing chlorine tannins, hydrogen sulfide, or oil.

For use on disinfected water only. See our complete line of stainless steel automatic ultraviolet sterilizers for sterilized water after softening. Lifetime warranty on filter tank. 3 year warranty on control valve. Plus sales taxes where applicable. Install outside? Use our stainless steel weather jacket. FOB Santa Cruz, CA, USA.
***Do not over-size the systems unless the recommended backwash flow rate is available! These iron filters must have the minimum backwash flow rate available to work properly.*** For instance, if the maximum flow rate at your location is only 9 gallons per minute, do not install a system that requires 10 or 12 gallons a minute for backwash.
Pressure Loss: 5 to 15 psi Service Flow Rates; 10 to 25 psi for Peak Flow Rates
Maximum Pressure Allowed: 125 psi Minimum Pressure Required: 30 psi
Voltage: 115v 60hz is standard. 24v 60hz, 230v 60 hz and 230v 50hz also available
Technical Notes: These systems do not work very well on acidic water. Acidity can be expressed in terms of pH. The pH scale tells us how acidic or alkaline water is; 7.0 is considered neutral, less than 7.0 acidic, and over 7.0 more alkaline. These systems work best when the pH is from 7.0 to 8.5. For the most accurate results: test the pH, on site, using pH strips from our Private Water System Designer Kit, or use or a pH meter, to verify accurate pH. Samples taken to a lab and not tested within 1 hour for pH, can give false higher pH results.
If pH is 7.0 or below: raise pH by installing a soda ash injection feed system or a neutralizing filter system. See our Automatic Neutralizers Catalog Section.
For best results on well water: install system after storage holding tank where water has had chance to be exposed to air for at least 20 minutes, or install in-line air-injector between well pump and pressure tank to increase the dissolved oxygen content.
Odors? Eliminate odors first by installing ozone system or air-blowing system in holding tank. Always install iron filter after holding tank and pressure system. These systems will not remove odors, and are not designed for use on water containing hydrogen sulfide or methane gas.
***Not for use on chlorinated water supplies.***
