"Day-timer", "Metered" or "Twin" refers to the type of control valve that comes with the iron filter:
Day-timer:
Automatically backwashes and cleans the neutralizer filter media based on a 12-day cycle (can be set to regenerate every 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, or 12 days), at an adjustable preset time, typically 2am. The day-timer style is often the best choice among the control valve options, as it the simplest, least complicated, and most reliable. Furthermore, in some applications it is a good idea to backwash the filter every four to six days, regardless of water use, to keep the filter media fresh and to avoid cementing or solidification of media bed. A metered control valve (see below) which counts the gallons and backwashes based on use, may not afford regular backwash frequencies, if water usage is light or erratic.
Metered:
Automatically backwashes and cleans the filter media based on an adjustable preset amount of water being used through the filter, at an adjustable preset time, typically 2am. This type of control valve works well for many applications, but care must be taken that the filter media gets backwashed on a regular basis if the water usage is low, to avoid solidification of the filter media or bacteria growth in the filter. Do no use this type, unless the service flow through the neutralizer is enough to trigger a backwash at least once every 10 to 12 days.
Twin tank:
Automatically backwashes and cleans based on an adjustable preset amount of water being used through the filter; no time clock, alternating twin tank insures continual filter service. Do no tuse this type, unless the service flow through the neutralizer is enough to trigger a backwash at least once every 10 to 12 days.

Neutralizer Application Criteria
  Calcite Calcite Blend
pH level of untreated water recommended: 6.0 to 6.9 5.0 to 6.0
pH level of treated water:* 7.0 to 7.4* 7.0 to 8.5*
Filter Media: 100% calcite 90% Calcite / 10% Corosex
Max Iron Levels: 2.0 ppm 2.0 ppm
*Actual treated water pH will depend on alkalinity, hardness, and interval of test. Higher levels of pH will be seen after the filter bed sits for a period of hours, and lower levels will be seen after water has been flowing through unit.
