Private Water System - No Storage
Tank - collect water sample as close to pressure tank as possible,
or collect sample from cold water faucet before any filters
or water treatment system. Run water for at least 10 minutes
from well to get accurate sample. |
| For Bacteria (coliform)
Analysis: |
| 1. |
Use sterile bottle obtained from
State Certified Lab (see under Pricing and Information). |
| 2. |
Take from hose bib or cold faucet
as close to source as possible, or take from hose bib (outside
faucet that garden hose connects to) at house; OR take from
kitchen sink. |
| 3. |
If faucet has aerator: remove aerator. |
| 4. |
Allow water to run for five minutes. |
| 5. |
Sterilize faucet by heating with lighter or
small torch (be careful not to melt o-ring or gasket on faucet); |
| 6. |
Fill sample bottle completely with water.
DO NOT rinse bottle first. DO NOT touch inside the bottle or
cap. |
| 7. |
Deliver to lab within four hours of sampling,
or refrigerate and deliver within 24 hours. |
| For Water Analysis To
Determine Copper Levels, use "first draw" sample: |
| 1. |
Select inside fixture (bathroom sink, kitchen sink, etc.)
for analysis. |
| 2. |
Allow water to sit overnight (12 hours minimum) without being
used at the fixture. |
| 3. |
Allow about a quart of water to run, immediately before sampling. |
| 4. |
Fill "Metals" Sample Bottle (do not rinse - contains
preservative) with water to be tested. |
| 5. |
Deliver to lab within 24 hours. |
